The GLP-1 Gap: Why Nutrition Matters Alongside Medication

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy dominate the conversation about appetite. What gets less attention is that many people taking them are eating less without eating better. Appetite drops, but nothing replaces the structure that would help them get enough protein and fiber. Too little protein while eating less can mean losing muscle along with fat.

We built The GLP-1 Protocol for that gap, and for people who want to support appetite through food without medication. In both cases the goal is the same: give your body the food its own GLP-1 response is built around.

Your body already makes GLP-1. The question is whether the way you eat supports that signal or works against it. Below are five ways we build that support into our food, starting with the full four-week plan and then each part of the day.

How We Judge a Food-Based Approach to GLP-1

Not every high-protein diet is built around GLP-1. Before the five methods, here's what we look for.

First, the right foods. Protein, fermentable fiber and fat all prompt cells in your gut to release GLP-1. A plan should be built around all three on purpose.

Second, clear daily targets. Ours are about 90 g of protein, about 30 g of fermentable fiber, 1,300 to 1,500 calories, and 80 or more ounces of water.

Third, structure you can keep. A plan that works for three days and leaves you guessing on day four isn't a plan. Ours sets breakfast, a snack and lunch for you and leaves dinner flexible.

Fourth, a way to see what's happening. A scale can't tell fat from muscle, so body composition is worth tracking.

Method 1: A Complete High-Protein Meal System (Our Four-Week Plan)

The base of everything is a structured meal system built for this purpose. That's different from "eat more protein" or a general meal plan.

Our high-protein food system builds your day around portions that support fullness and help you keep muscle. Each weekly bundle has 7 Blueberry Muffins, 7 Chocolate Chip Cookies, 7 Meal Replacement Bars and 7 servings of Vanilla Protein Shake. That covers breakfast, a snack and lunch every day. Dinner is the one you make.

The bundle alone gives you about 70 g of protein and about 30 g of fiber a day, and dinner tops up the protein. Across the day you land between 1,300 and 1,500 calories.

Our One Month Health Reset, four weekly bundles, adds a Hume Body Pod body-composition scale and weekly body-composition check-ins, so you can see whether you're losing fat or muscle.

Why does a system beat "just eat high protein"? Because the protein is spread across the day and paired with fiber and fat at every meal, rather than packed into one sitting.

If you're used to eating whatever, whenever, any structure will feel tight at first. The aim is a plan that's firm where it counts and doesn't leave you hungry.

Method 2: A Breakfast That Supports GLP-1 From the Start

A breakfast of mostly refined carbohydrates doesn't give your fullness signal much to work with. A breakfast with real protein and fiber does.

Ours is the GLP-1 Blueberry Muffin, with 18 g of protein. It's the first of the day's protein and fiber, and it's why our first rule is don't skip breakfast.

The idea is simple. When you start the day with protein and fiber, you're less likely to go looking for food mid-morning, and lunch is easier to keep sensible.

Try this: for three days, note how hungry you are at 11 AM and 2 PM. Then switch to a breakfast with real protein and fiber and compare.

Method 3: A Snack With a Job

Most diets treat snacking as failure. We treat one snack as part of the plan.

The GLP-1 Chocolate Chip Cookie has under 20 g of carbs. It's there to stop a craving when one hits, not to be dessert. That's one of the rules we publish: use the cookie as a craving-killer.

Having a planned answer to a craving means you aren't fighting it with willpower or grabbing whatever's nearby.

If you snack on crackers or granola bars now, try swapping one for something with real protein and fiber, and notice how long it holds you.

Method 4: A Lunch Built to Last the Afternoon

Lunch is where a lot of plans fall apart. Something light holds you for a couple of hours, and then you're hungry until dinner.

Our GLP-1 Meal Replacement Bar is lunch on the protocol. It's gluten-free and dairy-free, and it's meant to be a meal, not a snack on top of one.

For people on a GLP-1 medication, this part matters even more. The medication lowers appetite, but it doesn't improve what you eat. A lunch that's ready to go and built around protein makes it easier to eat well on a small appetite.

If lunch is your weak spot, having it decided ahead of time removes the daily choice.

Method 5: A Protein Shake to Round Out the Day

The GLP-1 Vanilla Protein Shake has 17 g of protein, 3 g of fiber and under 20 g of carbs per serving. A serving comes with each day of the weekly bundle.

It fills the gap between what the muffin, cookie and bar provide and the daily target. Protein powder on its own doesn't know what else you're eating. The shake was built to fit with the rest of the day's food.

If you're short on protein most days, look at where the gap is. Our rule is to hit your protein number even if you skip a meal, and the shake makes that easier.

Where This Differs From Generic Diets and Supplements

General diets treat weight as a calorie math problem. Single supplements try to work on their own, without a plan around them.

Our approach differs in three ways. The food is built around protein, fermentable fiber and smart fats, the foods that prompt GLP-1 release. The structure removes most of the daily decisions: breakfast, a snack and lunch are set, so you only plan dinner. And with the Reset, you can track body composition rather than weight alone.

Everything we make comes from our own certified, dedicated gluten-free kitchen in Georgetown, Texas, with no artificial ingredients, colors or preservatives.

The Complete Package: The Four-Week Reset

The One Month Health Reset puts the pieces together: four weekly bundles of muffins, cookies, bars and shakes, plus a Hume Body Pod and weekly body-composition check-ins.

For dinner, make lean protein and non-starchy vegetables, aiming for 30 to 40 g of protein. That brings the day to about 90 g.

The first week is mostly about getting used to the fiber. Introduce it gradually. Mild gas or bloating early on is normal and fades. Sleep and light activity add to what the food is doing.

If you're taking Ozempic or Wegovy, the plan works alongside the medication. It helps you get enough protein and protect muscle while your appetite is low.

Give it the full four weeks. A few days isn't long enough to see how your body responds.

Who This Approach Is For

We built the protocol for two groups.

If you want to support appetite without medication, you're probably tired of diets that leave you hungry. The protocol gives you structure and food built around your own GLP-1 response.

If you're already on a GLP-1 medication, appetite isn't the hard part. Getting enough protein and fiber while eating less is. The protocol makes about 90 g of protein a day easier to reach.

Either way, it works best for people ready for some structure. If you want a plan with no rules at all, this isn't it.

Getting Started

You can start with the Weekly GLP-1 Protocol bundle or the One Month Health Reset. Subscriptions can be paused, skipped, swapped or cancelled.

Four weeks is enough to learn whether this way of eating suits you. If you're on a medication, let your prescriber know you're changing how you eat.

If you want food built around your body's own GLP-1 response, try The GLP-1 Protocol, a four-week food-based plan you can follow with or without a GLP-1 medication.
